Anne, I think this is my favorite (I’ve read at least some of each of your series), probably because the characters are so believable. I wonder if you hear that a lot. I see myself quite a bit in Sam, but in Ian as well – the beauty is in the small details of thought, the evocative descriptive language, and most of all in the humor. Sam’s insecurity is maddeningly destructive to his happiness, but it’s rooted in doubts we’ve all had at one time or another.
I’m fairly new to the whole gay romance genre, really, but it seems (as with everything else) much of it is mediocre, and concerns itself with two-dimensional relationships between stereotypes of various flavors. Thanks for making me care about Sam and Ian, and I look forward to your next book. I must admit, I hope it grabs me as much as this one did. Brava!
I do hear that a lot, actually. I can’t quite put my finger on why it worked out that way with Sam and Ian, but I think it’s at least partly because I was playing with romance novel stereotypes. Or I just had more of an affinity for them than usual. Or my muse was especially enamored of them and put in a little more of its energy than normal. Or maybe I just got lucky.
Sometimes the mojo is stronger than others, and it was with these two. There’s a special place in my heart (<——cliche) for all of my characters, but these guys are closer to the center than others. Um, don't tell Brad that . . .
I recently discovered your books and I love them! I am kind of obsessed, actually. They are all great, but I think Too Stupid To Live is my favorite – I agree with David, everyone seems like a real person with so much dimension. I kind of didn’t want the book to end just so I could learn more about them. I can’t wait for more books from this series and hopefully more about Sam and Ian! They are the cutest.
