And the Winner is…

6

August 8, 2011 by Anne Tenino

Well, it was sort of a tie. There were 23 votes for Liam, and 22 for Ian. But in the “Other” category, someone voted for Iain. I looked it up, and it’s a variant of Ian. The last few days, I’ve been increasingly convinced the guy should be named Ian. He’s kind of an asshole, and Ian somehow fit (not that Ian’s are assholes — I had a friend as a child named Ian who was a great person).

We have a tie, people. I’ve already voted, so I made my husband cast the deciding vote. It went something like this:

Me: “I had a poll on my blog to decide the name of one of the characters in my current WIP.”

Husband: (silence)

Me: “Hellooooo!”

Husband: (glancing at me for a split second before returning to news feed on computer screen) “What?”

I had to repeat myself a couple of times.

Husband: (finally) “Great.”

Me: “So I have a tie, and I need someone to cast the deciding vote.”

Husband: “The kids are still in bed.”

Me: “I was thinking you would vote.”

Husband: “Me? I don’t care, name him whatever you want.”

Me: “Dude, shut up and work with me, here. Ian or Liam?”

Husband: “Uhhhh, which one did you want to name him?”

Me: “Ian.”

Husband: “Okay, name him Ian.”

Me: “Thank you.”

This is Sam and Ian, post-coitus. Image Sam with much lighter hair, and Ian with lots of dark chest hair.

So, long story short, Sam’s soon-to-be boyfriend is named Ian. If you put up with the whole long story, you get a prize. Here’s the picture of Sam and Ian I found on the internet.

  1. It’s a little late now, but after telling my youngest about your conversation with your husband, he said he favoured Ian as well.

Now if he’d only been awake earlier … he could have voted (I can’t wait for him to go back to school, I can barely get him to do normal times, he seems to be reading anime all through the night and sleep all day – teenagers!!)

Thanks, Blaine. 🙂 Tell your son I appreciate it. LOL

I can’t wait for them to go back, either. My twelve-year-old sounds like your youngest, it’s making me nuts.

LMAO @ the conversation you had with your hubby lol, from the looks of it he had you vote for Ian.

can’t wait for Sam’s story, I finished Whitetail Rock and loved it!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: he’s not stupid.

      Very often.

My goal is to have a finished draft of Sam and Ian’s story (still no working title, that makes me nervous) and sent in to an interested publisher by the 1st. I may be nuts…

I actually voted for Ian for 3 reasons…
    1) It’s my hubby’s name so I’m already fond of it (though if I think about, it kind of does my head in to imagine him with Sam, lol!),
    2) It always sounds like an older guy’s name (knew a baby named Ian & just sounded wrong, despite knowing that the same had once applied to my hubby…) so it emphasized that Sam’s new guy was older than him,
    3) It’s a good Scot’s name

I’m really looking forward to reading the story!

Thanks, Sue! I’m glad no one was upset when I sort of monkeyed with the results like that (or at least no one complained to me).

I’m looking forward to writing it, if I ever finish the f-ing novella I’m working on. 😛
